Genetic engineering is the deliberate modification of an organisms DNA to confer specific properties. It has existed since humans first started to breed animals and plants, although we now have more sophisticated technologies and we can dramatically accelerate the process.

Genetically engineered is when man changes the gentic make up of a particular organism. This is usually to make the organism better or more suited to the qualities that is required from a organism. This is common in the crops that we grow. Crops are genetically engineered to be able to better withstand the cold (for example) better than the previous crop did.
