• Question: Is any of your work similar to what an undergraduate doing Medicine at University, and if so what would it be?

      No, medicine and medicinal chemistry are totally different. Although what doctors would do without drugs is a mystery to me.

      Medicine is very much about understanding what the ilness is and then how best to cure the patient or how to care for their needs.

      Drug discovery is about finding a drug that acts against the illness.

      I’ve known a few people who did medicine at university and it seems to be that you learn what diseases are and how to treat them. It’s a course designed to direct you into the medical profession.

      Chemistry is more working at a molecular level to design drugs to treat illness. It’s a lot more removed from patient care and the actual medical profession.
