• Question: What are the effects of medication used to stabilise someone with bipolar on an unborn child?

      Not really sure, but in general doctors would advise pregnant women not to take any medication (even coffee or tea!) out of concern of harming the unborn child. I guess it must be necessary to medicate if someone is bipolar and pregnant, but since drugs are not tested under these circumstances it is impossible to know the effects, if any.

      Any medication that is to be given to someone who is carrying a baby has been carefully tested and monitored. There are specially trained doctors and nurses that know how to deal with each patient and meet their individual needs and always have the patient’s best interests and safety as first priority.
