Different drugs take different amounts of time to be broken down by the body (metabolised)

Some drugs are specially designed to do just that – for example long lasting insulin for diabetics. This is the result of carefully “formulating” the drug so that it reaches its site of action at just the right time and stays there for just the right amount of time.

Like david says the drug has to reach the target site at the right time with the right dose, taking a drug is like a little guided missile that needs to hit its target before it will work and sometimes they miss or are taken out by your body so not all drugs work
